Call time on auto-renewal
We just want one thing from you. We want you to come back year after year because auto-renewal of policies is one of the easiest traps to fall into with motor insurance.
"What customers need to bear in mind is that an insurer which has offered a great deal to win your business will probably want to make some money from you the following year, and then a bit more the year after that," said GoCompare's Matt Oliver.
Some vehicle insurers may even offer highly attractive deals for two or three years in the hope that they'll secure a customer for life by breaking the consumer's habit of shopping around.
"It's no secret that loyal customers subsidise the best deals for new customers," said Oliver.
"You can either be on the receiving end of the subsidies by switching regularly, or you can give out the subsidies by staying loyal to one insurer. It's as simple as that."
